   Virtual Volunteering

In order to better minister to the residents (clients) that have requested help through Pathfinder Mission, we have established the Virtual Volunteer ministry.  Selected Volunteers have committed to call each of our clients at least once a month for several purposes. The Virtual Volunteers are missionary multipliers --- in fact, you might think of them as Virtual Missionaries.  Participation in this ministry significantly expands the effectiveness of the Pathfinder outreach ministries. Many volunteers have told us that it is difficult to return to the Gulf Coast as often as they would like, but they would still like to do something to help.

"Doing ministry" can be as simple as making a phone call.  The Bible says that we are to "encourage one another, pray for one another and point the world to Jesus. The phone call you make is a way to accomplish those imperatives and does three additional things ......

First, it lets the the people, here, know that they have not been forgotten.

Second, it ensures that Pathfinder is aware of the recovery status of each client.

Third, it keeps the volunteers connected to the ministry on the Gulf Coast by providing a means of continuing their ministry even after they return home.

What to do

1.  Contact Pathfinder to connect to a family on the Gulf Coast.

2.  Once we provide you with the information, call your Katrina family at least once a month.

What do you say....

Give them your name and tell them you are a volunteer with Pathfinder Mission.

Example:   "Hi my name is Charley.  I am a volunteer with Pathfinder Mission.  I am calling to see how you are doing."

It's not necessary to tell them you are not in the state (but you can if you wish).  A telephone call can be from around the corner or around the world ... it is just as personal.

What do you ask.....

a.  Are you still in a FEMA trailer?  (Of course if they say "No" you won't have to ask that again.)

Volunteer Note:  As of May 2007 there were still over 7000 FEMA trailers in use in Hancock county.

b.  What is the progress on their home? Do they have the materials to complete the work?

Volunteer Note:  There are so many people struggling with the rebuilding of their homes.  It creates huge amounts of stress.

They lack the money to buy the materials and help to do the re-building.

c.  Do they need any volunteer assistance? If so, what type?

Volunteer Note:  Pathfinder provides assistance on the primary residential structure.  If you are not certain we would help them, tell them you will ask Charley and Martie to call them back.

Cautionary Note.  Please do not offer to give them money or commit to sending volunteers.  Tell them that someone from the Pathfinder Staff will contact them about their needs.  After the call you can send us an e-mail or call us to let us know about the need.

d.  Are they attending a church? If so, which church?

Volunteer Note:  We are not trying to "steal sheep" from other churches.  If they attend a church that is what we want to encourage.

We hold a worship service at 7:00pm every Saturday night at the camp.

e.  Always end your conversation with a prayer.  You can say something like this ....

"(First Name), I would like to pray for you and your family before I go.  Is there anything specifically that I can be praying about.  You know, I pray for you every day."

3.  Use the PDF form to record the answer to the questions.  Click Here to open the form.

The form has a button that you click to e-mail the report to Pathfinder.  You might want to print the form after you fill it out to save it for your records.
