Ministering to the Orphans in Jacmel (James 1:27)

There are approximately 500,000 orphans in Haiti.  Many of them are homeless.  Those who are not fortunate enough to find their way to an orphanage, often lack food and adequate medical  care, and housing  ...  Pathfinder Mission has been given the opportunity to help the orphans in Jacmel by building an orphanage on the outskirts of town.  Partnered with Children's Hope, an Orphan Ministry based in Montgomery, AL in April and we began construction in late July.

Helping Haitians Help Haitians.

Our goal is to help Haitians become self sufficient and not U.S. dependent.  That means finding ways to help Haitians develop the ways and means to support themselves by learning trades or starting small businesses or both.  With an 80% unemployment rate in Haiti, we make a concerted effort to hire local workers which means that we don't require as many volunteers as we did during the Katrina Relief and Recovery.  The cost of one person coming from the U.S. for a week to help is equivalent to the annual salary for one worker in Haiti.

Need for Volunteers

We do need volunteers .. just not as many.  There are skills that cannot be taught quickly which means that we need skilled workers to help.
