Greetings Friends!
Ps 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.
What a
great promise! As I was reflecting on these verses this morning,
the Lord encouraged me and reminded me of the vision He has given us
and His promise that "many will see and fear and put their trust in
the Lord." We are now in our 11th month on the coast. We are even
more persuaded today that we are right where He wants us to be
-- doing exactly what He has shaped and purposed us to do. What
about you? Has the Lord been speaking to your heart about your
purpose in His kingdom? Let this be your prayer .....
Psalm 25:4-5 Show me
your ways, O Lord,
teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach
me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Sorry we
missed last week. We just returned "home" on Friday from a brief
trip to Arizona (and we think it's hot in Mississippi!) We visited
our son, who is in his last year of college in the Phoenix area,
and were able to stay with my brother, Don, and his wife. It was
very refreshing for both of us and was wonderful to see family.
Last summer, Martie and I volunteered to be bumped from a flight
during a layover in Dallas and were given two round trip tickets
which had to be used within a year. So, the Lord provided for our
trip in every way. Awesome, isn't He?
The
Fourth of July cookout went very well. Volunteers from our home
church, Gateway Baptist in Montgomery, canvassed the area for
several days beforehand, meeting with folks and the community and
passing out flyers about Pathfinder and the cookout. We had about
100 people from the community attend the cookout. Bay Vista Baptist
Church in Biloxi provided the barbecued chicken and we bought some
shrimp "off the boat" in Lakeshore. As a result we had a good
number of requests for help with homes and there are several
families that we will be following up for spiritual and emotional
encouragement. We intend to host another cookout on Labor Day. An
interesting side note ... yesterday we talked with the local
shrimpers that we purchased the shrimp from ... they said that the
local market is so weak and fuel is so expensive, that they may be
forced to stop shrimping ... they sold us medium shrimp for $1.50 a
pound ... just another example of the economic disruption caused by
Katrina ... Please pray that God will restore the economy in this
area.
We are
building pods as quickly as we can. We delivered several
yesterday. We try to take the volunteers who build them on a few
deliveries so they can see the start to finish of their effort. We
are leading as many pod deliveries as we can to make personal
contact with those families. As I type this I am thinking about the
many who have worked in the evenings and on weekends to build the
pod components at home ... or in some cases contribute money... or
perhaps bibles ... who do not see the fruit of their labor -- a
pod sitting next to a FEMA trailer and a family relieved that they
have a place to secure their belongings or set up their washer and
dryer. The song "Thank You" by Ray Boltz says "I was a life that
you changed". So many families have been blessed by the work of all
of these volunteers and contributors. If you are one of them ... we
want to say "thank you for giving to the Lord!"
We
continue to have volunteers "matrixed" to our camp for work in the
community. That has really been a wonderful - God provided - way
to maintain momentum in support to the residents. Most of the
volunteers are high school and college age youth, so the kind of
work they can do without skilled supervision has been limited. The
last two weekends of this month we will have a good number of
volunteers staying here at the camp. So we are looking forward to
putting a bigger dent into the work orders. Volunteers who work
with Bell South in Jackson, MS will be down next weekend to help us
with the network for our computer training lab and to build some
pods. With respect to the computer lab, a woman who is working with
the Hancock County Long Range Planning Committee stopped by
yesterday. In the course of our discussion, she mentioned that
before Katrina she was a computer skills teacher. Since Katrina,
she was let go. Now she volunteers her time to help with the
rebuilding. I told her about our training project and asked that
she consider volunteering some time to help us teach the classes.
Our
Bible study is going well. The people who attend have a hunger for
the Word. Early this week, Martie and I will be visiting a few
families that attended the cookout on the 4th who indicated that
they had an interest in bible study to invite them to join us.
For
those of you who have worked in rebuilding Little Zion Baptist
Church , Kim Reed and volunteers from North Georgia have completed
99% of the work. The church has carpet, tile, paint, a sound
system, well .... like one of the members said ... "It has never
looked so good!" We are thankful that Pathfinder has been able to
play a small part in that rebuilding. Kim has such a heart for
helping churches rebuild that have fallen through the cracks. Like
Kim, there are so many believers that God has called and used in
ministry to the Gulf Coast. We are thankful that, like Kim, they
said "Yes". If you recall, it was through Kim's ministry that
Pathfinder was established here in Waveland.
Please
continue to pray that volunteers will continue to come to
Mississippi and to Pathfinder. Currently, after July, we don't
have anyone scheduled until the end of August. We are still so far
away from being done, but we are making progress, day by day.
Please encourage people in your churches to consider a trip to
Pathfinder. Pray for our team ... for strength: physical,
emotional, and spiritual. Pray that God will continue to grant us
favor with the local governments. And that He will continue to
provide for our needs.
We thank
God for all of you.
