Greetings!
We trust the Lord is with you and you with Him. Every day He reminds us that He is able to meet our every need. The ministry is continuing to progress well. We held our first Praise service Saturday night. We are using iWorship music videos from Integrity Music which are awesome. Little Zion is allowing us to use their sanctuary for the service. We received the donation of a video projector. Our friend from Eclectic, Robert Lumpkin, helped us build some 30 foot audio cables and showed us how to use the sound board. Another friend and Brother, Pat Ellis, from Gateway called and asked if he could come for the weekend. The videos didn't work correctly with the projector so Pat figured a way to make it work. Steve had a tarp given to him that had one white side so we hung that from a length of metal conduit for a screen. Everything worked like it was supposed to. PTL It was good to worship the Lord and sing praises to His name. There were about 20 people there, 2 were residents from the area, the rest were volunteers. (Recall that we want to reach three people groups here; unchurched residents, volunteers, and contractors). We are trusting that God will use these videos and the music to touch their lives. Martie and I have begun to go out into the community in the afternoons to visit with the people who have come to our camp for assistance. I am also accompanying the teams who deliver the pods, when possible. This gives me the opportunity to give them a bible and pray with them. The pod requests are at about 280. Since we do not have a steady stream of volunteers, we have coordinated with Camp Coastal who will be sending some volunteers to help us with the Pod builds on a recurring basis. Memorial day. Only one volunteer at the camp, today. Steve, Robert Lumpkin, Harold Gilliam (the chairman of the deacons for Little Zion), Pat Ellis and I went to New Orleans to work on Pastor Johnson's house (pastor of Little Zion). As we followed Steve pulling the trailer I was thinking … there is a Truck with a Washington state tag, driven by someone from Oregon, pulling a trailer from Alabama, which contains wood and a shower retrieved from a house in Mississippi (recall the house torn down while we were in California) on its way to help rebuild a house in New Orleans, LA. What a picture of the outpouring of the Church in America. It reminded me of John 17 ... What the Church is doing on the Gulf, the unity that we are demonstrating, is a testimony about Jesus Christ … so the world may believe! Wow! I have heard so many times from believers and non-believers that if it were not for the Church, they don't know what they would have done. They see our unity as we help them in this recovery. Let's not lose the ball on this and decide it isn't important enough to continue to invest our lives in it. Katrina was a catalyst that ignited the local church causing her to launch into unprecedented service to the Gulf Coast. All to the Glory of God! When we arrived at the pastor's house, I was again reminded why that outpouring is necessary. We were there all day and only three trucks - contractors - passed by. Most of the homes, though standing, are not occupied. It is like a ghost town. There is such a long way to go. Please pray that God will continue to stir the hearts of His sons and daughters to come to the aid of those on the Gulf coast. Martie and I want to thank all of you who are praying for us. Please pray for physical and spiritual strength for us in the days ahead. With great affection Charley &
Martie |
