Camp Kairos Journal

From Bay St. Louis, MS

January 06, 2006

  Greetings!

We trust you all are doing well.

A Personal Note:

This week Martie and I are in Montgomery, Alabama. Martie has been having problems with sciatica, which at times has brought debilitating pain, so we met with a neurologist for relief and treatment. ( I was able to encourage the doctor to help at the Medical clinic in Bay St. Louis. He helped us in Ocean Springs and is interested in helping again)

We are returning to the camp on Sunday. Please pray for Martie, that God will bring healing and restored health. Her heart is with the people of the Gulf coast. The pain she experiences makes it very difficult for her to do the things she has been called to do. Some years back, Martie and I attended a Experiencing God of Couples seminar at Ridgecrest, NC. Henry Blackaby and his wife, Marilyn, were the speakers. Dr Blackaby shared a story of how Marilyn had gotten to a point of emotional desperation during their ministry building churches in Canada. What they did was turn to God (together), the One who called them, and asked for His help and strength. We are not at a point of desperation but know that, in the same way, we are turning to God who called us to (Daniel 3:17 …. our God whom we serve is able to deliver us)

About the Camp:

If you have visited our web site, you know about the Storage Pods project. We have received over 200 requests for Pods as of yesterday. The requests for the storage pods has also brought new requests for help with other needs. But more importantly, these requests represent touch points for ministry. Please pray with us, that God will use these storage pods for the furtherance of the Gospel.

Churches and other ministries have stepped up to help us with the cost of materials. As an example, churches in DeMotte, IN are building the pre-fab components and will be sending 100 kits to us next week. The Hightower Baptist in association in North Georgia purchased the metal sheets for 70 Pods. The metal arrived at the camp this morning. As important as the storage pods are, we must maintain a balance between helping people with their homes, helping rebuild Shoreline Park BC, and the storage pod project. In order to do that we need more volunteers. Please encourage those you know to join us for a few days. The volunteer flow for January is good, but we still need more help. We are confident that God will speak to the hearts of His people.

As we transition from "destruction" to construction we will need construction materials (or money to buy them) for those families that do not have the funds to rebuild their homes. Pastor Ed Murphy, myself and another "semi-permanent" volunteer will be reviewing the requests for assistance to determine who is eligible and to what degree we will provide the assistance. We are already receiving requests for assistance with wiring and sheetrock installation.

Next week, I will be leading a men's study for East Thonotosassa BC at the camp after dinner for three nights. Pray that God will bless this time and speak into the hearts of these men and others who might be at the camp.

This is an abbreviated update. I'll share more next week. Thank you all for your partnership in this ministry to the Gulf Coast.

Blessings

Charley
